However, believing the royals left her to die and their people to suffer, Pumyra's spirit became full of rage and could not pass on due to her new-found hatred towards the Thunderian royals. Enduring up until dawn, Pumyra saw Lion-O, leaving to hunt down Mumm-Ra with Tygra and Cheetara, the three unable to hear her pleas for help as she dies hopeless and alone. Although her lower body was crushed, she was still alive. Unfortunately, Thundera was falling apart from the merciless assault of the Lizard Army and large parts of falling rubble crushed right on top of Pumyra. When the Lizard Army attacked, Pumyra was on the front lines, defending Thundera. When General Grune returned to Thundera, no one realized that he had secretly defected to Mumm-Ra's forces and was part of a massive assault force to destroy Thundera. History Fall of Thundera & Mumm-ra's Resurrection 1.3 Search for Tech Stone & Betrayal at Avista.1.2 Infiltration at Dog City & Mount Plun-Darr.1.1 Fall of Thundera & Mumm-ra's Resurrection. If they did continue the series however, Lion-O would probably be done with romance unless they introduced a whole new character (it would be difficult though since he'd been betrayed/hurt twice & probably wouldn't be looking for another relationship so soon), and he probably wouldn't be bitter towards Cheetara so much anymore given the level of hurt Pumyra put her through. Meh, I dunno man, I honestly don't know if I'd want to see the 2011 series continued, might be better to just do another reboot and handle the characters better the next time around, with Pumyra as the team's healer like in the original series rather than an angry undead gladiator. Because I have an idea that if the show did continue I can see Lion-O being depressed about the whole ordeal with Pumyra and cheetara tries to comfort him but he gets angry and tells her that she doesn't want her comfort because she hurt him as well and will probably tell Tygra about the reason why cheetara was smitten with him in the first season. And Pumyra.Poor Pumyra, she went from being an unsung Thundercat with loads of potential to being the undead traitor who may or may not have been the war bride of Mumm-ra.That scene totally tainted my childhood memories of the original Pumyra I feel your pain, just out of curiosity if they did continue the show what do you think should happen. I guess I just don't get why Lion-O had to end up alone TWICE, and in increasingly over the top and mean spirited ways. Basically the show's conclusion left a bad taste in my mouth, the 2011 series had alot of potential and great artwork, but was ultimately disappointing, not nearly as satisfying as the 80s original, cheesy as it was at times. However, the manner in which they ended Pumyra's relationship with Lion-O was just cheap shock value nonsense, totally pointless, especially given that the show was cancelled and any chance of following up on the aftermath of the season 2 finale was squashed. Now, to be fair, I actually loved the idea of Pumyra becoming Lion-O's new love interest since the original Pumyra didn't get much attention & character development, at least compared to Cheetara and Wily Kit. I mean, up until the new series came along, many fans paired Lion-O and Cheetara together, and instead she ends up with a Tygra, who was re-imagined as an arrogant douchebag (cuz everyone likes seeing the asshole get the girl right? lol). I liked alot about the new series, but I HATED how they handled the romantic angles. They both hurt him pretty badly, Cheetara because she led Lion-O along & wasn't straightforward about her feelings for him until after she and Tygra finally kissed & Lion-O stumbled across them, and Pumyra because well. She was an undead spy for Mumm-Ra."eyes roll"

Foley sang a duet with Meat Loaf on the biggest single, “Paradise by the Dashboard Light.”įoley followed up that success by landing a role in a Broadway revival of Hair. Steinman then wrote the songs for Meat Loaf ’s 1977 album Bat Out of Hell, which went on to become one of the best-selling rock albums of all time. In that show, her castmates included Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman. “That’s where I got my equity card, it was my first union gig, and it really paid off in spades,” she says. In the mid-‘70s, Foley’s big break came when she was cast in That National Lampoon Show, a comedic musical theater production. Simultaneously, she performed in a band with her boyfriend, playing gigs around the region. I knew something was going to happen, and it did.”įoley certainly put in the work necessary to make things happen: she threw herself into the New York scene, studying with Uta Hagen (an actress famed for originating the role of Martha in Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf ). “It was one of those things, what else am I going to do? This is what I’m good at, and I really had confidence,” she says. In fact, Foley says there was never anything that caused her to doubt her decision to come to New York to follow her dream of becoming a performer. Even in the dirty ‘70s, I thought it was beautiful.” “I thought it was the greatest place in the world. They lived in a spartan place in the city’s Upper East Side neighborhood: “It was a railroad apartment and the bathtub was in the living room,” Foley says.Įven though New York was notorious for high crime and urban blight at that time, Foley still felt immediately at home. Louis, Missouri to New York in 1972 (the day after she turned 21 years old) with her boyfriend. This album is the latest installment in a storied career that began when Foley moved from her native St. It was a very cool, relaxed way to do it.” “You have your ProTools on your laptop, but then he brings in a really good mic so you might as well be in a studio.” Doing things this way, she says, made her feel “So comfortable, and I think that’s really reflected in the album. “We did the vocals in this room,” she says of the living room in which she’s sitting. Once that was done, Foglino came to Foley’s apartment to help her record her parts. Antonakos (guitar), and Ula Hedwig (backing vocals). Roth (bass, keyboards, drums), Steve Goulding (drums), Stephen B. įoglino brought other accomplished musicians on board to record Fighting Words, including C.P. When that show ended, Foglino suggested they work together on more music, resulting in her last studio album, 2013’s About Time. It was at La MaMa, the experimental theater down on the Lower East Side, which is the premier Off Off Broadway since the ‘60s,” Foley says. So he feels like he’s overrun with hormones!” Ellen Foley’s Fighting Words will be available on August 6th via BandCamp and other fine digital and physical retail outlets (Image: Prime Mover Media)įoley and Foglino first met in 2005, when “He wrote the music for a show I was in called Hercules in High Suburbia. As for how he manages to capture the female perspective so well, Foley says, “He lives with three women, his wife and his daughters. “There’s a lot of humor – he’s very funny and very witty,” she says of Foglino. “This was all done pre-pandemic, but it was done during the reign of Voldemort,” she says, referring to ex-President Trump, “so it all has that theme of survival and friendship and putting a hand out.”Įven so, there’s a certain lightheartedness to much of this material, which Foley credits to Paul Foglino (formerly of the band 5 Five Chinese Brothers), who wrote these songs for her. Themes of empowerment and empathy run through these tracks, which Foley said had been done in deliberate protest. There was, she says, never any question that she would continue to push herself creatively, choosing songs that showcase her emotive vocals: “This is what I do best, and so there’s no choice,” she says. AUDIO: Ellen Foley “This Won’t Last Forever”Īs its title suggests, Fighting Words is full of powerful tracks that prove Foley is far from mellowing, even as she enters her fifth decade in the entertainment business. And in the Bed-Stuy lookback "Life in Marvelous Times" he offers a credo: "More of less than ever before/It's just too much more for your mind to absorb/It's scary like hell, but there's no doubt/We can't be alive in no time but now. In "The Embassy," Mos Def describes a luxury hotel as an outsider, too aware to come on like one of those thug fools who think they own a joint that'll blacklist them five years from now. Almost every thoughtfully slurred word is comprehensible, including most of the ones he sings in Spanish, and the vision justifies the Malcolm X intro. Does anyone know where to download The Ecstatic by Mos Def I’ve found most of the songs on YouTube, but a few were blocked in Canada: The Embassy Workers Comp. Half associative rhymes that clock in under two-and-a-half minutes, devoid of hooks but full of sounds you want to hear again, it's like a dream mixtape-one unresolved track morphing into the next to define a world hip-hop with poles in Brooklyn and Beirut. You know how Will Smith makes the corny hip-hop albums you'd expect of a leading man with a sense of humor? Well, this is the arty hip-hop album you'd expect of a character actor who steals every marginal flick he's in-only unlike Smith's, Mos Def's is good. Know is a silly one: "Black Jack Johnson NYC/R-O-C-K-I-N-G." A. But an equally telling lyric on an album whose secret hero is Bad Brains' Dr. "My work is personal, I'm a workin' person/I put in work, I work with purpose," he reminds anyone who would reduce "hard work" to a right-wing slogan. Songs transmute into raps as the album shifts from Black Jack Johnson blues-metal toward smoother beats that quote Hair and twice reference What's Going On in mix and mood as well as content before building to a soulish horn band, some catchy rock nonsense overdubbed entirely by Mos Def, a heart ballad he very nearly sings, and a party-ready requiem cum call to action. Here the defining flow is sonic-a shadowy, guitar-drenched tone poem of the streets. Musically, Mos Def has always been a little dull-so caught up in his own smarts he let verbal flow carry his albums. "Brooklyn" and "Habitat" are no less geohistorical because they act locally. "New World Water" isn't just the political song of the year, it's catchy like a motherfucker. But the wealth of good-hearted reflection and well-calibrated production overwhelms one's petty objections. I hope someday he learns that what made Chuck Berry better than Elvis Presley wasn't soul, even if that rhymes with rock and roll the way Rolling Stones rhymes with (guess who he prefers) Nina Simone. "Building it now for the promise of the infinite," Black Star's star overreaches delete the right tracks, which is always the catch, and his solo CD would pack more power at 55 minutes than it does at 71. Paddy is careful to secure a cursory “yes” from Tara before proceeding, but you’d be hard pressed to watch the power dynamics at play here, or her inebriated out-of-body language, and declare the encounter wholly consensual. What follows is a sex scene of astonishing, shiver-inducing detachment, on which the film’s whole giddy mood pivots. Tara has sweet, goofy chemistry with the less attractive lad, but it’s Paddy who’s presented as the prize: so much so that when he puts the moves on her, separating her from the crowd for a proposed beachside tryst, she feels almost obliged to accept. Among them are amiable doofus Badger (Shaun Thomas, a decade on from his wrenching childhood breakthrough in “The Selfish Giant”), who takes an early shine to Tara, and his cocksure friend Paddy (Samuel Bottomley) - the ladies’ man of the two, which in this social circle is merely to say his tattoos are marginally less regrettable and his name isn’t Badger. Their immediate objectives are limited to getting drunk and getting laid - with Tara, the bubbliest of the three but also the only virgin, feeling more pressure on the latter front than her pals.Įarly signs are promising, with the room opposite theirs occupied by a compatible crowd of friendly hedonists. School is over, exam results are imminent, and while Tara and Skye are pretty certain they’ve failed, the future is temporarily on hold. Manning Walker’s film lays out the minefield of sexual education and consent for a post-#MeToo generation, with a precision to its ambiguities that will draw gasps from its characters’ contemporaries and elders alike.īefore we get there, however, it’s all a hot, hormonal good time: You can practically smell the suntan lotion, flavored lipgloss and cheap spirits spilling from the bags of 16-year-old besties Tara (a sensational Mia McKenna-Bruce), Skye (Lara Peake) and Em (Enva Lewis) as they roll (or more accurately stagger) into the Cretan resort town of Malia, heading for a giggly night swim before blagging themselves a poolside room at a self-catering hotel beset with hundreds of other whooping British students. As for that teasing, cheeky-sounding title, it’s both ironic and instructive. Here is a film for every 16-year-old still finding their real identity between their brash friend-squad front and the most diminishing taunts of their self-image, and for every older person who remembers that, and hasn’t the heart to tell them it may be an ongoing search. Some of the options even let you start a video chat while watching the movie.“How to Have Sex” is equally likely to endure comparisons to Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun,” last year’s great British debut about regimented package-tour fun bringing out the latent melancholy of troubled holidaymakers - again, a reference point that captures some sense of the film’s brightly dilapidated milieu but not its very specific, vividly evoked anxieties. You can usually minimize this if you want to focus on the movie, but you might miss out on some hilarious running commentary if you do. Once you get up and running, most of these services let you talk to your friends in a chatroom at the edge of the screen. That said, some platform specific services, like Disney+ GroupWatch, work anywhere you can use the app. If you planned to watch a movie on your TV, you should work out how to cast your computer to your TV before getting started. Many of these services only work on a computer, and many of them only work with the Google Chrome browser. If you're hoping to watch Netflix together, you each need to have an active Netflix subscription. The first point to mention is that everyone watching the movie needs an active subscription to whatever streaming service it's on. Most of these watch party apps and services work in the same way, so we'll start by explaining how they work. Why the name "Aaia"?Īaia in Tamil means grandma. It was inspired from the quote by think in lists. This is mostly useful if any complex comparision or logic has to be applied which otherwise would not be easy through cypher queries.Īaia was initially intended to be a tool to enumerate privelege esclation possibilities and find loop holes in AWS IAM. Since it is based on neo4j, one can query the graph using cypher queries to find the anomalies.Īaia also supports modules to programatically fetch data from neo4j database and process it in a custom fashion. This helps in identifying the outliers easily. Aaia (pronounced as shown here) helps in visualizing AWS IAM and organizations in a graph format with help of Neo4j. You can think of executing () like walking the next “step” your game will take. Open a command prompt and type in pip install pygame, wait a little and pygame should be available to use in your code. pygame allows us to quickly develop a game and handles all the complicated logic for us. We’ll need to install the pygame dependency to make our game, and we can install it by using pip on the command line, which comes with the Python installation. It’s called a dependency because our code depends on the other person’s code to work. What’s a dependency?Ī dependency is code from another location that we import into our code. To achieve that, we’ll need to install a dependency. We want our snake game to appear in a window that the user can interact with, like any other application. py extension, this means it’s a Python script which we’ll be able to run from the command line later. Having an IDE is helpful for catching errors and knowing when your syntax is wrong quickly, but you can always program using a normal text editor, like Notepad or TextEdit. Click “Download Python (version)” and go through the installation process. We do not know exactly how this can be done, there are many ideas around but we don't have the answer yet and this is the next step.Download it from here. "If a black hole is spinning at its maximum speed, then 29 percent of the mass energy of the black hole can be extracted. This enabled them to confirm that the rotational energy of spinning black holes powers these jets and that the magnetic field catalyses the process. "We found that the power of the jets is greater than the power of the accretion disk, therefore somehow rotational energy is extracted from the black hole," says Ghisellini. The authors found a clear correlation between jet power and accretion power. "I could see the amount of radiation produced by the accretion disk and the amount of radiation produced by the jets, so I could calculate the power connected with the jet, and the power connected with accretion," says Ghisellini. They compared the energy produced by the accretion process in the black holes and the radiation being produced by the jets. They examined data from optical telescopes and the Earth-orbiting Fermi gamma ray observatory. The new research, by Ghisellini and colleagues, looked at 217 blazars, which are quasars whose jets point towards Earth. However until now, there has only been limited evidence supporting this prediction. Scientific models had predicted that these jets are powered by both the magnetic field and the black hole's spin and mass. Powerful magnetic fields produced by the spiralling matter near the event horizon result in jets - such as quasars and blazars - shooting out perpendicular to the disk. Some of the energy is produced as this material is crushed, torn apart and superheated by friction - when this happens it forms an accretion disk of matter spiralling around the black hole's edge, called the event horizon. "That other form of energy is the rotation of the black hole itself."Īstronomers have long known that supermassive black holes - commonly found at the centre of galaxies - generate powerful jets of energy whenever stars, gas clouds and other material fall into them. "My work tends to demonstrate that we need something more than just matter falling onto a black hole to power these jets," says the study's lead author Dr Gabriele Ghisellini of the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera in Italy. Power source How do the powerful jets of energy that shoot out of supermassive black holes - known as quasars and blazars - get enough energy to be visible for billions of light years across the universe?Ī new study, published today in the Nature supports the theory that a significant amount of the energy comes from the black hole's spin. Critics argue that sentimental objects and personal belongings play a significant role in our lives, connecting us to memories and experiences. Minimalism's emphasis on decluttering and detachment from material possessions can be seen as a detachment from emotional attachments as well. This can result in sacrificing comfort, convenience, and personal enjoyment in the pursuit of an idealized minimalist lifestyle. By reducing possessions and focusing on simplicity, minimalism may overlook the practical needs and preferences of individuals. In some cases, minimalism may prioritize aesthetics over functionality. The emphasis on clean lines and neutral colors may result in an environment that lacks warmth and character, leading to an impersonal and unwelcoming atmosphere. Japanese - Teabowl, c.1830, clay with creamy white glaze (Eiraku pottery) Criticisms Sterility and lack of personality Ĭritics argue that minimalist spaces can sometimes feel cold, sterile, and devoid of personal expression. These simple Japanese pots, coloured in earthy tones, inspired many Art Nouveau ceramists and glass makers during the 1890s and the 1900s. Across time, both sophisticated highly decorated porcelain and simple everyday ware were produced in Japan. Still produced today, admired and collected by many Minimalists are simple Japanese ceramics. Because Christian liturgies are held in the interior of the churches, Byzantine exteriors usually have little if any ornamentation. Another form of ancient Minimalism were the exterior of Byzantine buildings, especially churches. What we see today is the core structure, since the surface polyshed limestone layer was used to built the city of Cairo during the Middle Ages. In the case of the Pyramids of Giza, they were initially covered in a layer of smooth white limestone, and their tops were covered in gold. Both their exteriors and interiors were simplistic. Probably the most famous case is the one of Ancient Egyptian pyramids. Aside from financial factors, across time, in some circumstances minimalism occured before Modernism. At the same time, peasants and most of the popularion which wasn't part of the elite owned simple objects and lived in basic homes, which to our eyes of today might look 'Minimalistic'.
